Dr Zhou Kai joined UNAIDS China Office in 2006. She has rich experience on supporting various partners, including government, private sector, civil society organizations and international organizations to participate in the AIDS response in China. Her main responsibilities are to provide policy advice and recommendation on the development and implement the Five-year Action Plan on AIDS of China; mobilize the civil society and community members to be involved and ply an active role in the AIDS response; and coordinate the UN joint team on AIDS to have unified strategy and effort to the country. Dr Zhou is also in charge of programmes on South-South collaboration, in particular China-Africa health collaboration to ensure access to medicines and health care in Africa though promoting local production of pharmaceuticals and health commodities in the continent.

Before joining in UNAIDS, Dr Zhou Kai worked for the National Center of AIDS and STD Prevention and Control, Chinese Center for Disease Control, and the Institute of Child and Adolescent Health, Peking University Health Science Center. She was the programme manager of China Integrated Programmes for Research on AIDS which was supported by NIH, and has over 10 years working experience on child and adolescent health. She received a doctorate degree from the School of Public Health of Peking University Health Science Center in 2001, and engaged in fellowship training in Department of Epidemiology of University of California Los Angeles, USA in 2005.
